More Recession Proofing Tips: Layoff Preperation

I found a great article on Lifehack.org titled How to Prepare for a Layoff . I encouage all my readers to link over and read this great article.

All tips presented in the Lifehack.org article are prudent, but I specifically believe the following are critical:

  1. Demonstrate Your Value - you must show that you are valuable and that without you, critical business functions will falter. Prove to your employer each day that he/she needs you.
  2. Build Your Emergency Fund - I wrote an article about this previously but it is again worth repeating. Save 3 - 6 months of expenses so if you do lose your job, you can look for a new job in a relaxed manner.
  3. Remember to Look on the Bright Side  - Recessions are always temporary. Pamela Skillings, the author of this Lifehack article says, “your layoff may be the kick in the pants you need to find a more fulfilling job.” I couldn’t agree more.

I wish you much success! Make sure you read the Life Hack article today!

  1. Love the quote about getting a kick in the pants you need to find a more fulfilling job.

It’s unfortunate that most of us don’t seek out and try to do what we love and have a passion for in order to make a living.

  2. Jay - thanks for the comment. It is a shame we don’t get the kick in the pants until something incredible happens. We often hear stories about an individual diagnosed with a terminal disease only to turn the disease into an empowering force for good.
